The sixth season 1998-99 opened with Franz
Liszt Chamber Orchestra of Budapest performing world premiere
of “Chiaro Di Luna” by woman composer Laura Schwendinger.
The Budapest Chamber Orchestra, known as one of the finest
chamber orchestras in the world, performed its only Bay Area
concert with PGN. The program also included three encores.
The chamber orchestra received standing ovation from the entire
audience. The 1998-1999 season included the Chorovaya Akademia
men’s “a capella” choir from Moscow, raved by the Washington
Post as “the loveliest sounds made by human beings this season”,
performed “Alleluia” by Augusta Read Thomas, Composer in Residence
for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
